Great for outdoor recreation and enjoyment of the rich coastal resources. The waters offshore are part of the National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preseve, holding many shipwrecks.

Over 45,000 trout swim in the hatchery ponds. Purchase fish food and watch the trout in a feeding frenzy. Catch trout for dinner for a small fee. Open daily from 10 am - 6 pm Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Negwegon State Park - Day Use Area - A Nature Trail System and Spectacular Beach Area South of Ossinek e- Negwegon State Park is a 3,738 acre rustic, undeveloped area open for hunting and hiking. The terrain is a mixture of low land areas, with small ridges, to mature pine forest, with some hardwoods and aspen forest, with some pockets of open meadows mixed in. Negwegon hosts a beautiful undeveloped sandy beach on Lake Huron. The Algonquin Trail, the Chippewa Trail, and the Potawatomi Trail provide 12 miles of scenic hiking opportunities. Backcountry camping is available in Negwegon from April through November. This type of camping can be a very rewarding experience as some of Negwegon's most scenic areas are accessible only by hiking, kayaking or canoeing along the Lake Huron shore. Walk over 1/4 mile of boardwalks that will take you out into this fresh water coastal marsh. Observe a variety of wetland creatures from three separate observation decks, each providing its own special view. A very knowledgeable staff is available by appointment to explain and guide you on your tour. Open May 1 to October 31, small admission fee is charged, children under 12 free.

Tuttle Marsh Wildlife Area, Huron Shores Ranger Station, 5761 North Skeel Road, Oscoda, MI 48750, Phone: (989) 739-0728. Tuttle Marsh Wildlife area is a 5,000 acre wetland complex managed by the Huron-Manistee National Forests. Various habitat improvement projects have been completed throught cost sharing with Duck Unlimited, the Michigan Wildlife Habitat Foundation and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. This healthy wetland supports several species of waterfowl, songbirds, insects and small mammels. Migratory birds, reptiles, insects and other animals converge on these wetlands to use them as nurseries and safe havens until their young are ready to to venture out on their own.
