Mikado

Mikado Township is located in Alcona County. Population: 852. Township Hall: Mikado Civic Center, 2291 S. F-41, Mikado, MI 48745, (989) 736-9574.

The village was founded by Daniel Bruce who built a hotel for lumbermen here in 1886 and persuaded the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad officials to make it a station. Philip O. Partridge became its first postmaster on May 11, 1886, the post office department naming it Mikado after rejecting the locally requested name of Bruceville. Incorporated as a village in 1906.
